Lap Swimming

Southern Oasis’ Lap Swimmer Etiquette document.
When it comes to lap swimming, more isn’t always merrier. Pool coordinators find themselves consistently tasked with managing the crowd. Lap swimmers want their own lane. They hate to share and they REFUSE to circle swim or simply float in place. Slower or stopped swimmers feel pressured to give way to lap swimmers who can’t stand someone in their way. It becomes anything but a community activity…

The good news? That’s not always the case. Southern Oasis fosters a sense of community around the pool. Unfortunately, our pool is too small to support the simultaneous activities of leisure walking, relaxed floating and lap swimming. Particularly, since lap swimming consumes at least half, if not more, of our small pool.

Therefore, lap swimming is always encouraged when others aren’t present. If you are alone at the pool and want to lap swim, by all means, enjoy. However, if someone else arrives and doesn’t want to participate in lap swimming, Stop Lap Swimming!

Southern Oasis maintains a 23-hour swimming day which is more than enough time to get in your daily lap swimming. We’ve even added a canopy for mid to late afternoon swimming. Lap swimming can easily be accomplished outside primetime swimming which has typically been between 6pm and 10pm.

Thus, the reason to add pool rule #16…
No lane swimming when others are using the pool. The pool is open 23 hours a day, there is plenty of time for lane swimming.

As a reminder, the pool is closed Monday – Saturday from 7:00 am to 8:00 am for water testing and treatment. And ~6:30 am to ~9:00 am Sundays for additional cleaning.
